I have abstracted a small part of an object or scene to create compositions which exist independently of visual references to the world, leaving the viewer to concentrate on colour, shape and form. The subject matter is further removed from reality by de-focusing, which gives the images an organic, painterly quality.

My inspiration comes mainly from two artists: Mark Rothko and Helen Frankenthaler.

My images are made in the traditional way – with a non-digital SLR camera and slide film – and there is no digital manipulation involved. All the subject matter is found, rather than being set up in a studio.

None of my pieces are titled as I feel this would give the viewer a pre-conceived idea of how they should interpret what they are seeing. My intention is for people to let their imagination run wild, and to be inspired by a colourful world.
